DJI Sues Yuneec – Clash of the Titans. No, this is not an April fool’s Joke.

  • News

In what some might think is an April fool’s joke from DJI, it is not. DJI filed suit in Federal District Court against Yuneec. This is interesting because just yesterday USA Today announced that DJI, Parrot, GoPro, and 3DR have left the Small UAV Coalition.[1]  Intel, who invested $60 million in Yuneec,[2] is still listed as a member of the Small UAV Coalition on the website.[3]

The release from DJI said, “The complaint asserts that Yuneec’s products and technology infringe two DJI patents and seeks injunctive relief to halt the further sale of the infringing Yuneec products and systems.” DJI is suing for an injunction, damages, and attorney fees.

DJI is NOT being represented by Brendan Schulman in this lawsuit.

It is interesting to note one of the statements in the complaint, “When Yuneec demonstrated its Typhoon H product at C ES in Las Vegas, Nevada in January 2016, a writer for the Verge called the Typhoon H ‘the biggest challenge yet to DJI’s supremacy.’ An article from Cinema 5D labeled the Typhoon H ‘a serious contender to DJI’s Prosumer line up.’ One photography focused website went so far as to call Yuneec’s Typhoon H a “DJI Killer.”

We’ll keep you up to date as things unfold.
